This year is called the Year of Japan in Ukraine. Now, the project about Sakura planting is spread all over Ukraine. The name of this project is “ 2500 Sakura Campaign”, that was organized by the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.
The ceremony of Sakura Avenue opening took place on Thursday (April 13) on the territory of the Chornobyl disaster liquidator deed Square.
Oleksandr Sienkevych, the mayor of the city, came for a solemn trees planting ceremony and said:
“Today the Japanese delegation came to our city for a cultural visit, and I hope, it is one more sign for Japanese people that well-behaved and educated people live in Mykolaiv. I hope that Mykolaiv impressed our guests in a good way.”
Deputy Chief of the mission, the minister-counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, Mr. Michio Harada accompanied by a diplomatic official Mr. Ryosuke Ueno.
Michio Harada delivered a short speech in Ukrainian and paid attention to the beauty of Ukrainian women. He emphasized the fact that there is a tradition to observe the blooming of Sakura.
Halyna Zynovieva, the leader of Japanese cultural center at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, and Vadym Serdtsev (he planted more than 20, 000 trees at his own expense) took part in the ceremony, too.
Considering an enormous local citizens interest, we hope that already in the autumn there will be the second planting of Sakura Avenue in Mykolaiv.
