The Department of Sociology at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University is a center for teaching and researching in Sociology. The Faculty provides the theoretical teaching as well as practical training. Students enrolled under “Sociology” section undergo their internship in the local media and advertising agencies. They are involved in the sociological research and voluntary activities of charitable funds of the city. The results of student’s scientific researches and their social projects are realized within the context of the Centre for Sociological Research.

The Department of Sociology was established in 2001 within the context of the developmental strategy of the university. In 2008/2009 the first intake of students on specialty “Sociology” took place. Nowadays, the Department trains specialists in two fields: “Social work” and “Sociology”.

Students annually undergo international internship in the United States, Germany, Britain and China. The department of sociology has productive relationships with various institutions and social organizations. The professors are highly qualified specialists and active members of such leading scientific and practical all-Ukrainian institutions as the Sociological Association of Ukraine and the Ukrainian associations of psychotherapists. The Department of Sociology is a scientific-educational center of Mykolaiv. Professional stuff of the Department provides high quality training.  All professors use personally-oriented educational technology, interactive teaching methods and the methods of art therapy that allow activating emotions and creativity of students.

 

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology was established on the 1st of September, 2014. Its core task is to give a student the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and to provide the “Psychology” course to the students from the other departments of the PMBSNU. Students get the theoretical knowledge and practical skills accordingly to the curriculum of the psychology departments of the classic universities. The curriculum includes General, Developmental, Educational, Experimental, Social, Differential, Engineer, Clinical, Legal and Political Psychology. The History of Psychology, the Psychology of Management, the Labor Psychology, Psycho diagnostics, Path psychology, and Elementary Psychology are studied also.

Among all the disciplines of the natural-scientific studies, it should be mentioned such courses as the Anatomy and Evolution of Nervous System, the Theory of Biology and Human Genetics, Psychophysiology, Human Ecology and Ecological Psychology, Anthropology, Animal Behaviour, and Comparative Psychology. Additionally to the mentioned basically studied subjects, students of the Department are offered a number of the following humanities: the English and Ukrainian Language, the History of Ukraine and Ukrainian Culture, Philosophy, and Political Science.

The Bachelor of Sociology is trained for the organizational and administrative, technical, analytical and research activities in the social, economic, and political spheres. Students must study the humanitarian, social and economic, fundamental and professionally oriented courses. A specialist of “Sociology” learns to define priority issues of the Ukraine social development and its regions and investigate it practically; to develop specific recommendations for resolving social contradictions and conflicts, advancing work organization forms, its division and cooperation, improving employment conditions; to draft programs of the economic and social development enterprises, the social and cultural activities fund; to provide the methodical assistance to employees of organizations and enterprises on the resolution of social problems.

The Bachelor program provides the knowledge on determine the conditions and resources required for the implementation of social work various areas and social interferences types, provision of the social services to the different strata of people, individuals, and families. Students learn to determine community conditions that can influence conducting different social work branches and social interferences types, providing social services to the diverse sections of populations, individuals or families. Besides, they investigate methods and tools of research aimed at the evaluation of the existing conditions and the social work resources; learn to collect data regarding professional interference conditions and resources on the community level, the social group, certain family or an individual, and information regarding vital activity resources of families or individuals, who request help of the social services.

Within the course, students study the modern views to psychological processes and statuses, psychological development and diagnosis, conflicts and approaches to their solving; learn the psychological data collection and methods of analysis; gain the fundamental knowledge about the theoretical and methodological background and the basic research data of the individual industries in psychology. Successful course termination supposes acquiring of academic and professional skills and knowledge, ability of solving typical conflicts in psychology. Postgraduate Degree with the qualification of Bachelor on Psychology can operate in the following sectors of national economy: health care, physical culture and social affairs; education; science and scientific services; and the citizen associations.

Training of Master’s degree is the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. During the training, students formed a scientific worldview; the knowledge of the basic laws of development of nature and society, the key stages of development of humanitarian and socio-economic sciences. Masters study the world paradigms of sociological thought; explore man’s place in the social world, in general – the relationship of nature and humanity; the place of culture in human development, types of cultures and the system of basic cultural values, social identity of religious doctrines and beliefs. They become familiar with the content of modern sociology as a science, define its role in modern society in the study of globalization and social integration processes; study the methodology and methods of concrete sociological research and modern information technology.

He was awarded for the voluntary activity from Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa (Bahrain) and NGO “Good Work Society” (Bahrain). Currently, there are many conditions for the development of new generations of young specialists in the Petro Mohyla BSNU. Material base of the university includes 12 buildings combined into a single set – campus. These conditions are set forth in an effort to create a comfortable learning environment and encourage study. Everything we do is for you, for your benefit and convenience.
The university has the library stocked with 169442 copies. The fund of the department of literature in foreign languages has 22000 copies in 44 languages. The structure of the library includes 1 subscription and 3 reading halls with total amount of 238 seats.


January 17, 1998 Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University opened the Gallery of Arts. The old noble academic tradition of creating centers of national culture in educational institutions was re-established.


In order to create a national center of higher education and humanitarian cultural center created an educational complex “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” Nicholas and educational, scientific and cultural center.
