The Editorial and Publishing Department
The Editorial and Publishing Department (EPD) of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University began its activity in 1997 as a structural unit of the newly created higher educational institution of the Ukrainian Black Sea Coast – Mykolayiv branch of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The Publishing Department is included into the state register of Ukraine for publishers, manufacturers and distributors of publishing products.
First of all, the Regulations on the self-supporting activity of the Publishing Department were developed in accordance with the current Regulations on higher education institutions. This Regulation has contributed to the possibility for printing of high-quality products on our own production base. With the assistance of the university administration, the planning and economic department, and account department, the Regulation standardized the activities of our Publishing Office: material and technical base, payment, the whole complex of publishing work. Now the activity of the Department is governed by the Regulations on the Editorial and Publishing Department of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University Publishing Office.
The first years of formation for those who created our department (Vadim Kobzar, Natalia Molodyh) were very difficult. However, thanks to the support of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Mykolayiv Regional State Administration, Rector and Vice-Rector, the Department became a powerful division of an educational institution of a new type which was entrusted with the most complex types of printed products in a relatively short time.
Now the material and technical base of the EPD includes 4 computers that are connected to a local network with Internet access, 2 laser printers and 1 inkjet color plotter for printing large-format sheets, a modern scanner. Our Printing Office is equipped with two risographs, there is a sewing machine, a paper cutter, a binder for gluing books, a laminator, an automatic embossing press.
All team members possess relevant professional skills and abilities, giving their strength to their beloved work. The EPD team carries out its effective activity in friendly cooperation with the professor and lecturer staff of the university, scientists, students, masters of the artistic word, and also always provides them with timely and qualified assistance. The department has become a real information center of educational, scientific and public life of the university.
The strategic direction of the Editorial and Publishing Department is publishing a scientific, popular science, educational and methodical literature and periodical scientific journals. Every year the department publishes over 250 books only.
The University periodical scientific and methodological journal Scientific Works is included into the list of scientific and professional publications of Ukraine, in which the results of dissertation works for obtaining scientific degrees of doctor and candidate of science in eight areas can be published: historical sciences, ecology, economic sciences, technological safety, political sciences, philology, pedagogical sciences, computer technologies. The journal Scientific Works has been entered into the State Register of the Printed Mass Media No. 5817, series KB.
In 2009-2010 the publishing of new modern scientific publications Historical Archive and Black Sea Chronicle, aimed at meeting the requirements of the present time and promoting the educational process and scientific and analytical activities started.
It should be noted that the articles in the aforementioned periodicals are published not only by the state Ukrainian language, but also by foreign ones (Russian, Polish, English, German, French).
The works of undergraduate, master’s and graduate students may be published in the periodical youth scientific journal Student Research Studios.
Our periodical journals have international numbers of periodicals ISSN (International Agency, France):
- ISSN 1609-7742 – scientific and methodical journal Scientific Works;
- ISSN 1609-8099 – youth scientific journal Student Science Studios ISSN 1811-4938 – бібліографічна серія;
- ISSN 1811-492Х – methodical series.
Our Editorial and Publishing center is a contractor of: Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; Pedagogy and Psychology of Professional Education Institute of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine; Ukrainian Academy of Political Sciences; The Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies named after I.F. Kurasa of NAS of Ukraine; Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of Ukrainian Historiography and Source Studies named after M. S. Grushevsky of NAS of Ukraine, Mykolaiv Regional State Administration; Mykolaiv Center for Political Studies; NAU Kharkiv Aviation Institute and others.
Editorial and Publishing Department of Petro Mohyla Bkack Sea National University:
- contributes to the publishing of educational materials with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
- provides books with ISBN numbers;
- provides its own periodicals with ISSN numbers;
- forms the electronic version of the publications;
- performs mandatory mailing of books according to the lists of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine and the ISBN;
- Places information about its own products in the leading catalogs of publications in Ukraine;
- provides an opportunity for scientists to publish articles in professional journals which are included in the list of HAC of Ukraine;
- draws up a full list of services as for bibliographic description of the publication.
The department publishes: monographs, brochures; textbooks, study guides; abstracts of dissertations; journals, collections of scientific papers; fiction; journals, as well as catalogs, newsletters, postcards and forms.
We carry out a full cycle of publishing and printing services, high-quality literary and technical editing, computer layout, modeling, scanning, replication and bookbinding, the manufacture of blanks and business cards. Highly qualified computer scientists can even develop a corporate identity (logo, etc.), design a book, a magazine cover, and create electronic pages for an Internet site.
During the existence of the department its employees have acquired such qualifications and, consequently, their popularity that our services are used by scholars from other universities, writers, poets, journalists, composers: professors V. P. Shkvarets, S. V. Pron, V. D. Yevdokymov, associate professor L. M. Tsymbal, writer Anatolii Maliarov, poet Valerii Boichenko, composers Omelian Shpachynskyi, Olexandr Ivanov and many others.
Publishing products of the Editorial Department is in great demand among the population. Every year the best books of our publishing house are presented at regional and Mykolaiv oblast exhibitions. A great achievement of our publishing business was the participation in the International Competition of Young Artists in France, where the book by S. M. Leonova The Renaissance of Forgotten Art: Ukrainian bone and horn carving took the third place.
