The history of the Department of Civil and Criminal Law and Procedure begins with the creation of Law Faculty at the Mykolayiv branch of National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in 1999. In 2001 the Faculty of Law was established and the Department of the Branch Legal Sciences was created. In 2006 this Department was renamed into the Department of Civil and Criminal Law and Procedure.

The research work of the Department is carried out in the field of theoretical and practical, intersectional and special research, in sphere of civil, criminal, administrative law, and procedure. Such work is carried out in close cooperation with Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk scientific schools of civil and criminal law and procedure.

Professors of the Department provide learning opportunities in such courses as: Civil Law, Civil Procedure Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Criminalistics, Criminology, Сommercial Law, Contract Law, Corporate Law, Family Law, Information Law, Agrarian Law, Land Law, Environmental Law, Actual Problems of Family Violence, as well as Theoretical problems of Criminal Offenses Qualification.
