The influence of Internet Journalism on the formation of public awareness in China

With the rapid popularization of the Internet and the continuous progress of technology, network news is playing an increasingly important role in Chinese society. It has not only changed the way people access information, but also profoundly affected public awareness and perceptions. In this era of information explosion, online news has become an important force in shaping Chinese public consciousness through its wide coverage, fast transmission speed and diverse content.

First, the wide coverage of online news enables it to spread information quickly and reach a wide audience. Whether in urban or rural areas, the popularity of the Internet allows more people to easily and quickly access to news information. This wide coverage makes online news a powerful influence among the public, able to deliver information to a large number of people in a short time. For example, when major events occur, online news platforms are able to report and update information quickly, so that the public can keep abreast of developments. This immediacy and breadth gives online news a significant advantage in shaping public awareness.

Secondly, the fast spread speed of network news enables it to occupy an important position in information dissemination. In the era of traditional media, the spread of news is often limited by time and space, while network news breaks through these restrictions and can spread information to all parts of the world in a short time. Through social media

platforms, news websites and mobile apps, news can be delivered to a user’s phone or computer screen within seconds. This speed not only improves the efficiency of information dissemination, but also enables the public to acquire and react to information faster, thus affecting public cognition and judgment to a certain extent.

Thirdly, the diversification of online news content enables it to meet the needs of different audiences and further influence public awareness. On the network news platform, in addition to the traditional text reports, there are also various forms of news content such as pictures, videos and live broadcasts. These diversified forms of content not only increase the readability and interest of news, but also make the dissemination of information more vivid and three-dimensional. In addition, online news also covers various fields such as politics, economy, culture and entertainment to meet the interests and needs of different groups of people. This diverse content provides a wealth of information resources, enabling the public to understand and think about issues from multiple perspectives, thereby subtly influencing their awareness and perceptions.

However, online news also faces some challenges and problems in the process of shaping public awareness. The first is the authenticity and reliability of the information. Due to the fast spread of network news and the wide range of information sources, false news and rumors are easy to spread. This not only affects the public’s judgment, but also may cause social panic and unrest. Therefore, how to improve the quality of network news and ensure the authenticity and reliability of information is an urgent problem to be solved.

The second problem is the excessive fragmentation of information. Online news is often presented in a short, quick manner, resulting in fragmentation of information. Although this fragmented way of information dissemination is convenient and fast, it is also easy for the public to obtain only one-sided information, lacking comprehensive and in-depth understanding and thinking. Under such circumstances, the public’s awareness and ideas are easily influenced by one-sided information, resulting in prejudice and misunderstanding. Therefore, how to disseminate information quickly while ensuring the depth and comprehensiveness of information is also a challenge that network news needs to face.

In general, online news plays an important role in shaping Chinese public consciousness. Through its wide coverage, fast transmission speed, and diverse content, online news can quickly spread information, meet the needs of different audiences, and influence public awareness and perceptions in a subtle way. However, the authenticity and reliability of information and the fragmentation of information also put forward new requirements for network news. Only on the premise of ensuring the quality of information can network news better play its positive role in shaping public awareness.
