Department of Ecology and Environmental Management

The Department of Ecology and Environmental Management was established in 1996, when the Ecology Faculty was founded. Areas of the scientific activity were mainly associated with the study of the environmental pollution by the heavy metals, the sewage purification from the oil products, and the problems of a forestation in the southern Ukraine. November 22, 2002, on the basis of the Ecology Faculty, the following two departments were created: the Department of Environmental Studies and the Natural Resource Management, Medical Ecology and Life Safety Department. The core area of research is the development of desalination systems by the non-traditional and alternative energy sources on Zmiinyi Island. Nowadays, the Department of Environmental Studies and Natural Resource Management has 7 major affiliates, namely:

  1. Mykolaiv State Regional Project and Technological Centre for Soil Fertility and Product Quality
  2. Mykolaiv regional water resource administration
  3. Regional Landscape Park “Tiligulskii”
  4. Mykolaiv regional ecological youth center
  5. City young naturalists organization, Mykolaiv
  6. Mykolaiv secondary school #18
  7. National Park “Bug Guard”

The graduates of the Department work at such establishments as the Specialized sea port “Nika-Tera” Ltd., the Mykolaiv Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration, the state enterprise ” Mykolaiv forestry”, the Mykolaiv Zoo, the Mykolaiv Communal Service Department, the Mykolaiv Regional Water Resource Administration, and the Center for Distance Land Research NAS Ukraine.
