On April 27, students of the Political Sciences Faculty and lecturers visited National Historic and Archaeological Preserve “Olbia”. This event was completed as the part of the educational course: “Democracy in transition with V4 experience”, which is managed with the help of the Visegrad Fund.
During the visit to the Preserve, participants learned more about the history of the ancient Greek settlement and the treasures found by archaeologists on the territory of the Olbia settlement. The museum buildings, which are located on the whole territory of Preserve are filled with the valuable historical artifacts: jewelry, amphorae, work and hunting tools, and objects related specifically to the Olbia settlement: coins depicting dolphins and eagles.
Besides the studying of historical artifacts and local landscapes, lecturers and students participated in a training workshop and received the new knowledge about the forms of government in Greek cities, the organization of socio-political life and the distribution of the rights and freedoms of ancient Greek inhabitants. Particular attention was paid to the development of democratic institutions in the ancient world and the work of democratic government supporters.
Students and lecturers learned about the origins of democracy and compared some features of democratic transformations in the ancient world, especially in Greek cities with the modern democratic transformations in the B4 countries.
