International Relations of the Institute of Philology
The Institute of Philology of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University is one of the best in Ukraine because of the number of teachers who regularly compete for the right to intern abroad in the USA, Germany, Poland, Spain, Norway, and other countries. Also, leading experts from other universities in Ukraine and all over the world are regularly invited to guest teach at our university. After all, the Institute is an experimental platform for educational innovations. We also have centres of language and cultural learning in an effort to further educate students about the USA, Germany, Spain and Latin America, French-speaking countries, Poland, and Japan. Not to mention, there are special conditions for the students of the Institute of Philology in Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University to get internships and continue their studies abroad while learning at some of the leading universities of the USA, Germany, France, Spain and other countries.
The Institute of Philology collaborates with Fulbright Program in Ukraine, USA Peace Corps in Ukraine, the Embassies of the USA, Norway, Austria, Germany, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, as well as the British Council, French Cultural Centre, ‘Alliance Francaise’, GREF Association of Teachers (France), and the Goethe-Institut (Germany). There is an exchange of teachers and students in the framework of cooperation agreements with the University of Saarland (Germany), Kazimir the Great (c. Bydgoszcz, Poland), University of Cadiz (Spain), Ka’Foskari (Venice, Italy), and University of Dedzhou (China). Students of the Institute of Philology also actively participate in US exchange programs, such as «Work and Travel» and «Camp America». And the Institute of Philology has its own American, German, Spanish, and Drama clubs as well as movie club and theatres.
English, Polish, German, and Spanish students’ summer schools are held every year. Student-philologists are notable for their active citizenship—working in the local community, helping with orphans and schools, and aiding most anyone who wants to improve themselves; student-philologists also initiate events aimed at strengthening educational values and corporative culture. The Institute of Philology of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University cooperates with such cultural and educational institutions as:

The U.S. Embassy’s information service in Ukraine that provides the supply of handbooks about American universities, testing conditions, studies, getting scholarships, and also reference materials about the preparation of documents and interviewing; it provides grants for the organisation of summer camps and other activities connected with American culture.

The US Peace Corps. Since 1997, 11 lecturers of economic, environmental sciences and English have worked at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University. With Peace Corps support, Mykolaiv Resource Center of English was created, summer schools of professional English were conducted, and several textbooks were published. The university also received about 500 monographs and English textbooks, published by the US, from the Peace Corps.

American Council for Collaboration in Education and Language Study (ACCELS). Throughout the past twelve years, 20 philology students have won at such programmes as Freedom Support Act Undergraduate Program and Muskie/Freedom Support Act Graduate Fellowship Program. The graduates of faculty (Institute) Marina Vashchenko, Dmitry Sai, Elena Gorelova all went on to earn Master degrees in US universities. Marina Vashchenko is currently finishing a Ph.D thesis.

Fulbright Scholar Program. Such lecturers of the Institute of Philology as H.V.Zaporozhets, O.V. Pronkevych, O.O. Starshova, H.L.Kolesnik, T.P.Ostapchuk, V.A.Bokova, T.G.Zhyvotovska took part in this most prestigious program for professors and scholars supported by the Government of the United States.

Goethe Institute (Germany) –the Centre for studying the German language was created and successfully works with the help of this Institute.

Robert Bosch Foundation (Germany) delegates lecturer-interns to Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides the best students with scholarships for training in Germany, and also administers internationally recognised exams in German for those who want to get international certificates.

The Alliance Franchise (AF) organizes meetings of French delegations and arranges for officials and intellectuals to visit Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University.

International Charitable Foundation ‘Cresset’ (“Smoloskyp”). During the existence of the university, 25 annual scholarships from the American Diaspora were received. With the support of this organization, four scientific student conferences were held.
Contacts with numerous country embassies such as Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Poland, the USA, France, Sweden, and Switzerland are actively developing. Each year the university offers 30 different exchange programs, and students of the Institute of Philology take an active part in them. In addition, regular seminars with representatives of the International Fund ‘Renaissance’ (“Vidrodzhennya”), ACCELS, IREX, International Center ‘Education’ (“Osvita”), and Fulbright Program are conducted.
